Conferences and Meetings

The NCCHCA Migrant/Latino Division coordinates the following programs:

East Coast Migrant Stream Forum

Begun by NCHCA in 1988, the East Coast Migrant Stream Forum is an annual conference that focuses on issues related to the health and well-being of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families living and working along the East Coast. Through educational sessions, roundtable discussions and networking opportunities, the Forum offers farmworker health professionals a chance to explore new ideas, discover innovative strategies and gain relevant training that contributes to improving health care delivery for this hard-to-reach, undeserved population.

Annual Meeting (Migrant/Latino focused activities and workshops)

This state meeting and mini-conference allows an opportunity for staff from our member health centers, such as management, providers and outreach staff, as well as other farmworker health advocates to come together to discuss selected health issues affecting the farmworker community and to identify possible prevention strategies.

Migrant/Latino Health Workgroup is comprised of Community Health Center staff from across the state as well as partnering safety net providers. The group meets every other month to share promising practices, discuss challenges, exchange resources and partner on initiatives in order to facilitate the delivery of quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate health care services to farmworker and Hispanic/Latino patients. Workgroup topics may include:

  • Language Access, Title VI and NC Migrant Community Health Centers
  • Lay Health Promotion Programs to Improve Health Outcomes
  • Achieving a More Minority-Friendly Health Care Practice
  • Addressing Issues of Domestic Violence with the Latino Community
