Workgroups

NCCHCA's workgroups provide a venue for Community Health Center staff to learn from their peers, share best practices, enhance their knowledge around successes and challenges, and provide networking opportunities.

Advocacy Coordinators Workgroup
Comprised of designees from each community health center to lead activation and expansion of a grassroots advocacy network within their organization.  Members of this workgroup receive coordinated training, briefings and background on emerging state and federal issues.  They also participate in advocacy efforts to generate media and community awareness, and mobilize forces to respond to Action Alerts and other coordinated Calls to Action related to issues of importance to community health centers and their patients.

Behavioral Health Workgroup
Comprised of health center behavioral health professionals, executive leadership, and community stakeholders in behavioral health,  the primary focus of the workgroup is on continuum of care and increasing access to services for mental health and substance abuse at migrant and community health centers. The workgroup addresses clinical and operational issues with respect to integrating behavioral and primary care services in FQHCs.

Chief Financial Officers (CFO) Workgroup
The CFO Workgroup is made up of the CFO’s at our Health centers across the state of NC.  The group meets to share best practices, have round table discussions of financial tools being used, and plan trainings to benefit them in better doing their jobs.

Clinical Network
Brief Description of Workgroup: The clinical network provides topical training on issues of concern to Community Health Centers. Networking is accomplished during face-to-face meetings, conference calls, webinars and email.  All clinicians, clinical support staff and employees of community health centers are welcome to participate.

Dental Directors Council

Dental Directors address continuum of care issues, service expansion, recruitment/retention, and dental policy at the state level. This workgroup discusses quality concerns around Medicaid dental clinics, new and unique populations and challenges of cultural competency. They have developed an excellent relationship with both the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and the East Carolina University Dental School with active discussions aimed at addressing shortage and access issues.  This workgroup consists of CHC Dental Directors and other stakeholders.

Diabetes Workgroup

The primary focus of the workgroup is to ensure that the Diabetes Educators in the NCCHCA ADA program are following ADA Standards for DSME and to provide a forum for concerns and sharing of best practice. The workgroup addresses clinical and operational issues with respect to the requirements of a DSME program at their individual health center.

Emergency Preparedness Workgroup
This workgroup addresses continuity of required services during emergency situations, collaborative arrangements for emergency management, and establishment of enhanced service levels (known as medical surge) during emergencies.

Health Insurance Outreach & Enrollment Workgroup
This workgroup is made up of Outreach and Enrollment staff at member Health Centers. The primary goal of this workgroup is to share strategies and resources in order to educate and enroll community members in affordable health insurance. NCCHCA Workgroup leaders will host trainings and develop tools related to topics such as BPHC grant compliance, outreach strategies, federal policy, health insurance literacy, etc. The group will also access resources and share ideas through a shared, invite-only online workspace.

HealthSpan Trainings
The Quality Improvement Program is a year-long training provided in partnership with HealthSpan Solutions. The program focus will be on QI foundations, data collection and display, accountability and reliability science, project management, creating a culture for change, and system sustainability.  The purpose of these trainings is to integrate Quality Improvement and data for improved outcomes and value-based care. The trainings have a dual track with one arm, Quality Improvement staff and the other arm, Operational staff and bringing the two tracks together to improve the quality of care that FQHCs provide their patients.  Health Center staff that are participating are identified through their administration.

Human Resources Workgroup (HR)

The HR workgroup is made up of the HR Directors at member Health Centers across the state.  The group shares best practices around HR issues, hosts trainings and develops tools to provide the directors with better outcomes and consistent methods for job performance.

Concerns addressed by medical directors include continuum of care issues, quality improvement/assurance and program expectations; and quality of care, health outcomes, and disparities performance measures. Recruitment and retention issues, incentive programs and other issues are addressed.

Patient Centered Medical Home Workgroup
Brief Description of Workgroup:  The monthly webinars are designed to assist health center staff in their journey through practice transformation and PCMH recognition. The webinars provide an opportunity for staff involved in the PCMH process and activities to share experiences, resources and discussion.

Pharmacy Directors Council
The Pharmacy Directors address the 340b program, continuum of care issues, program expectations; and quality of care, health outcomes/ disparities, and financial viability/cost performance measures. Pharmacy directors are actively engaged in conversations about expansion of services, hours of service, cost of pharmaceuticals, MTM (medication therapy management), pill box programs, e-Prescribing and more.

Practice Managers
Practice Managers, COO’s, Office Managers, etc work closely with all members of the health center staff.  These professionals are responsible for ensuring the practice is running smoothly and successfully while also planning, coordinating, budgeting, supervising, and interacting with patients and staff.  This work group is self-directed and discusses issues around patient flow and design, operation policies and procedures, access & barriers to care, productivity, customer service, cultural, linguistic and work competencies in a peer-to-peer environment that allows open dialogue and sharing of best practices.

QUICHE: Quality Use Improve CHange Evaluate
This workgroup addresses issues regarding delivery of quality health care, including health outcomes, patient centered medical home, program requirements and much more. Staff that work on PCMH, Meaning Use, UDS, and QI are invited to participate in this forum. The meetings have a basic agenda, but the workgroup is self-directing and discussions are generated by the group. The meetings provide an opportunity for staff involved in quality improvement activities to share experiences, resources and learning.

Special Populations Health Workgroup
This group is made up of approximately 75% Community Health Center staff with the remaining comprised of partnering safety net organizations from across the State. This workgroup addresses continuum of care issues, accessible hours of operation/locations, collaborative relationships, quality improvement/assurance, service level program expectations, and quality of care, health outcomes/ disparities performance measures specific to Migrant, Homeless, and public housing grantees.  Participants are encouraged to share concerns and feedback at all meetings as well as to provide specific topics for the year’s scheduled meetings.  The group shares promising practices, discusses challenges, exchanges resources, and partners on initiatives in order to facilitate the delivery of quality, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care services to patients under a Special Populations definition such as Farmworkers, Homeless, and public housing patients.  This workgroup is staffed by NCCHCA’s Community Development & Special Populations Coordinator with the assistance of the Director of Training & Technical Assistance.
