2017 National Health Center Week

America's Health Centers: Innovators in Community Health

Each year the second week in August is dedicated to celebrating the services and contributions of Community, Migrant, Homeless and Public Housing Health Centers. While there are countless reasons to celebrate America’s Health Centers, among the most important and unique is their 50-year history of providing access to affordable, high quality, cost effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people throughout the United States.

Health centers in North Carolina:

  • Deliver high-quality and affordable care to over 450,000 people
  • Employ community members and support the local economy in 72 counties through almost 200 clinic sites
  • Ensure that everyone has access to a health care home
  • Collaborate with other community organizations to provide integrated care to their patients

From August , 13-19, 2017, community health centers across North Carolina will be holding open house events, tours, health fairs, voter registration drives, etc. to highlight the services of health centers and engage community leaders in dialogue.

NCCHCA Members, Get the Most Out of Health Center Week!

Planning Your NHCW Events

The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) has tons of event ideas, advice for getting pubic and civil support, and approaches to getting sponsorship for your events.

Fact Sheets

  • The NCCHCA Health Center “Report Card" includes the latest data on health centers nationally and within NC, as well as a map of NC health centers.
  • These NACHC fact sheets provide useful information on topics such as cost effectiveness, the uninsured, and farmworkers.

Post Your Health Center's Event

Post your events to the National Health Center Week calendar.

NCCHCA would also like to keep up with your NHCW plans. Please email Leslie Wolcott with the following:

  • Event date, time & location (including address)
  • Brief event description (e.g., staff appreciation lunch, open house, health fair)
  • Elected officials that have been invited or plan to attend
  • Staff contact information
Invite Elected Officials to Your Events
  1. Identify the state and federal elected officials in your health center’s district or districts.
  2. Identify the scheduler and health policy staff person for your health center’s Member(s) of Congress.
  3. Invite them to attend your Health Center Week events!

Email Kristen Dubay or Leslie Wolcott when an elected official has confirmed attendance at your Health Center Week events.

Engage the Media

Click here for NACHC's NHCW Media Toolkit.
Spanish-language materials / Materiales en espanol are available here.
NACHC has also provided social media tools and graphics.

Engage the Public
  • Encourage Patients and Communities to Take the Pledge and Become Health Center Advocates.
  • Participate in Voter Registration: As trusted community institutions serving underrepresented populations, health centers are getting involved by registering their patients to vote and encouraging community members to go to the polls.
  • Incorporate Health Insurance Outreach & Education
