Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN)

NCCHCA is also the recipient of a $3.51M HRSA Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) grant. As an HCCN grantee, we support community health centers across North Carolina to improve quality of care and patient safety by using health information technology to cut costs and improve care coordination. We provide specialized training and technical assistance to take advantage of economies of scale, including:

We formed in 2013 and are currently operating under our third HCCN funding award (FY2019-2021). Our HCCN is currently comprised of 36 Participating Health Centers (PHCs) including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Lookalikes (LALs) with 253 practice sites located across 68 counties, serving 493, 540 patients in 2019. Nearly 43% of the patients served were uninsured, 24% on Medicaid and 13% on Medicare. Thirteen different EHR systems are used by the HCCN PHCs.

The North Carolina Community Health Center Association’s Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) is a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded HCCN. Currently participating in its third HCCN funding opportunity (Notice of Grant Award, H2QCS30255-03-02).

Please join Nathan Botts, PhD, MSIS, Cybersecurity Lead from the HITEQ  Center to review health center cybersecurity requirements and discuss recommendations and strategies for assessing risk and improving cybersecurity policies and procedures.

Learning Objectives

  1. Increased awareness of primary healthcare security risk assessment domains and staff responsibilities depending on their role within the health center to ensure better information security.
  2. Improved ability to recognize security risks in relation to emergency response situations such as those represented by COVID-19 and better understand how to plan and mitigate for information security risks identified.
  3. Identification of 1-3 specific resources from the HITEQ Center knowledgebase that can improve their ability to manage health information security risks.
