Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examines diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, malformations, and dysfunctional disorders of the oral cavity and its associated structures; Examines patients to determine nature of condition, by interpreting radiographs and diagnostic tests to determine type and extent of dental diseases and disabilities or dysfunctions; Evaluates findings and prescribes treatment; Refers non-dental problems to appropriate medical specialty; Restores health and function of carious, fractured, and otherwise defective teeth; Cleans, fills, extracts, and replaces teeth; Provides preventive dental service to patients, such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth, and education in oral and dental hygiene; Provides routine periodontal, oral surgery endodontic, and prosthodontic treatment commensurate with training; Provides consultation services; Directs dental program activities; Formulates and implements procedures for operation of dental services; Coordinates dental activities with medical providers; Instructs dental hygienists and assistant in daily activities of the dental program; Managers and administers dental policies and procedures; Provides guidance for the implementation of comprehensive dental program to continuously improve prevention and treatment of dental disease and to assure that program is fiscally sound and cost efficient; Supports the education of dental hygiene students and dental assistant students and other healthcare personnel by serving as preceptor, role model and mentor; Participate in risk assessment and risk management activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: May occasionally become crowded. Requires, bending, sitting lifting. May be kicked, bit or scratched by resistant children. Must be able to tolerate screaming, crying and other hysterical behavior by pediatric patients. Position exposed to Bloodbourne Pathogens including HIV and Hepatitis. All clinical staff is encouraged to receive the Hepatitis B Vaccinations (offered by CWWCHC free of charge) and Tetanus Toxoid.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Doctorate of Dental Surgery or a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or university; Licensed in the State of North Carolina
Ability to communicate clearly with patients; Excellent surgical skills; Some computer skills

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
Position requires interaction with patients, families, social workers, physicians, mid-level providers, referral clerks, nursing staff, front office staff and others.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL MATTERS:
Position is exposed to confidential patient information, correspondence and reports. All staff is expected to adhere to the Center’s confidentiality policy as stated in the Employee Handbook.

SKILLS:
1. Good interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly with patients.

2. Excellent clinical skills.

3. Excellent computer skills

4. The ability to work independently, and handle multiple priorities and tasks.

5. The ability to work effectively with persons of varying degrees of education and professional expertise in a multi-disciplinary team setting.

6. Clinical background and 1-5 years’ experience is desirable.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE

7. Dental license in the State of North Carolina
