Chief Dental Officer

Job Summary
Develops and monitors the goals and objectives of the dental continuous quality improvement plan. Supervises Dentists and Dental Hygienists, coordinates dental provider meetings and serves as mentor to other dental providers. Serves as the liaison between the dental programs and all other GCHC programs.

Responsibilities
Delivers the full range of dental services including exams, preventive care, diagnosis, treatment, treatment plans and any other patient care activities related to oral care.
Builds an engaged dental team with a strong vision and purpose.
Oversees services provided by Dentists and other clinical teammates, including clinical quality, patient experience and performance.
Establishes and monitors performance standards to measure and assess clinical performance on an ongoing basis to ensure efficiency and consistency with achieving clinical outcomes.
Establishes and maintains documentation of clinical protocols, policies and procedures related to providing safe and effective care.
Maintains current knowledge of clinical and operational best practices. Models and mentors providers in application of these practices.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local requirements for dental care.
Collaborates with administration, operations and other teams to build scalable training for new and existing clinicians to ensure consistent clinical performance.
Provides dental in-service training to dental and other staff as appropriate.
Participates in marketing, education and recruitment activities as needed to build the GCHC brand in the clinical community and with patients.
Represents GCHC to dental societies and other community and civic groups.
Balances clinical and business needs and communicates in a way that helps build a strong, unified team across clinical, administration, operations and other areas.
Works to develop infrastructure and training for providers within the organization to promote leadership growth.
Collaborates with schools and other organizations participating in the education and development of dental providers to facilitate recruitment.

Qualifications and Skills
Graduate of a CODA accredited Dental School. Successful completion of an accredited AEGD or GPR Residency. MPH preferred. Current North Carolina Dentist license in good standing. Current DEA registration. BLS Certification. Five years of clinical dental experience. Two years of experience in a supervisory role. Experience in an FQHC setting preferred.

Current knowledge of federal, state, local and third party regulations related to dental practice and provider credentialing.
Current knowledge of dental clinical and operational best practices and understanding of payer mix.
Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information.
Skilled in leading and managing teams, including building strong clinical teams and selecting, managing and retaining clinical talent.
Ability to administer an AEGD Residency Program.
Excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to balance business needs with clinical needs, as well as shift thinking from overall strategy to details.
Proficient at utilizing data to drive decision-making and enjoys working on a results-oriented team.
Strong leadership skills with ability to assess situations and provide direction.
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written, with employees, patients, families and external parties from a variety of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds in an individual and group setting.
Ability to communicate across teams and levels to create common understanding and generate buy-in from team members.
Ability to remain calm in challenging situations and work toward effective resolution.
Ability to identify, assess and resolve issues in a timely manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Experience or knowledge of complex fixed prosthetics, implants and orthodontics.
