Key Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of a physician assistant revolve around providing high-quality medical care while operating under the supervision of licensed physicians. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Patient Assessment: Conducting physical exams, taking medical histories, and evaluating patient symptoms to develop diagnostic plans.
Diagnostic Duties: Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, and blood work to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
Treatment Planning: Developing and implementing treatment plans in consultation with supervising physicians.
Medical Procedures: Performing minor procedures such as wound suturing, casting, and administering injections.
Prescribing Medications: Writing prescriptions as permitted by state regulations and overseeing patient adherence to prescribed therapies.
Patient Education: Counseling patients and their families on treatment options, preventive care, and management of chronic conditions.
Emergency Care: Providing critical care in emergency settings, including first aid and life-saving interventions.
Collaboration: Working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated care.
Administrative Duties: Documenting patient progress, medical reports, and treatment plans in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
