Workgroups

NCCHCA’s workgroups provide a venue for Community Health Center staff to learn from their peers, share best practices, enhance their knowledge around successes and challenges, and provide networking opportunities

 

Advocacy Coordinators Workgroup

Comprised of designees from each community health center to lead activation and expansion of a grassroots advocacy network within their organization. Members of this workgroup receive coordinated training, briefings and background on emerging state and federal issues. They also participate in advocacy efforts to generate media and community awareness, and mobilize forces to respond to Action Alerts and other coordinated Calls to Action related to issues of importance to community health centers and their patients.

Behavioral Health Workgroup

Comprised of health center behavioral health professionals, executive leadership, and community stakeholders in behavioral health, the primary focus of the workgroup is on continuum of care and increasing access to services for mental health and substance abuse at migrant and community health centers. The workgroup addresses clinical and operational issues with respect to integrating behavioral and primary care services in FQHCs.

Chief Financial Officers (CFO) Workgroup

Consists of the CFO’s at our Health centers across the state of NC. The group meets to share best practices, have round table discussions of financial tools being used and plan trainings to benefit them in better doing their jobs.

Dental Directors Council Workgroup

Addresses the continuum of care issues, service expansion, recruitment/retention and dental policy at the state level. This workgroup discusses quality concerns around Medicaid dental clinics, new and unique populations and challenges of cultural competency. They have developed an excellent relationship with both the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and the East Carolina University Dental School with active discussions aimed at addressing shortage and access issues. This workgroup consists of CHC Dental Directors and other stakeholders.

Diabetes Workgroup

Provides an opportunity for anyone involved in the care, management, and education of patients with diabetes to share best practices, discuss new programs, and look for innovative avenues to address the increasing number of patients with diabetes that are being seen and treated in our health centers. By pulling all of our resources together, this forum will discuss how to effectively improve care, enhance quality, and improve the patient’s experience. All are invited to participate.

Emergency Preparedness Workgroup

Addresses continuity of required services during emergency situations, collaborative arrangements for emergency management, and establishment of enhanced service levels (known as medical surge) during emergencies.

Human Resources (HR) Workgroup

Composed of the HR Directors at member Health Centers across the state. The group shares best practices around HR issues, hosts trainings and develops tools to provide the directors with better outcomes and consistent methods for job performance.

Medical Directors Council Workgroup

Concerns addressed by medical directors include continuum of care issues, quality improvement/assurance and program expectations; and quality of care, health outcomes, and disparities performance measures. Recruitment and retention issues, incentive programs and other issues are addressed.

 

Outreach & Enrollment Workgroup

Composed of Outreach and Enrollment staff at member community health centers. The Outreach and Enrollment Workgroup shares updates, strategies, and resources to facilitate efforts to educate and enroll patients and community members in affordable health insurance, as well as address other social needs that affect health outcomes. NCCHCA provides training and technical support, communicates relevant updates, and maintains an online hub of resources available to Outreach and Enrollment Workgroup members.

Pharmacy Directors Council Workgroup

Addresses the 340b program, continuum of care issues, program expectations; and quality of care, health outcomes/ disparities, and financial viability/cost performance measures. Pharmacy directors are actively engaged in conversations about expansion of services, hours of service, cost of pharmaceuticals, MTM (medication therapy management), pill box programs, e-Prescribing and more.

Practice Managers Workgroup

Compiled of Practice Managers, COO’s, Office Managers, etc. work closely with all members of the health center staff. These professionals are responsible for ensuring the practice is running smoothly and successfully while also planning, coordinating, budgeting, supervising, and interacting with patients and staff. This work group is self-directed and discusses issues around patient flow and design, operation policies and procedures, access & barriers to care, productivity, customer service, cultural, linguistic and work competencies in a peer-to-peer environment that allows open dialogue and sharing of best practices.

QUICHE: Quality Use Improve Change Evaluate Workgroup

Addresses issues regarding delivery of quality health care, including health outcomes, patient centered medical home, program requirements and much more. Staff that work on PCMH, Meaning Use, UDS, and QI are invited to participate in this forum. The meetings have a basic agenda, but the workgroup is self-directing and discussions are generated by the group. The meetings provide an opportunity for staff involved in quality improvement activities to share experiences, resources and learning.

Workforce Workgroup

This is NCCHCA’s newest workgroup! We will work together to share best practices and processes to build, connect, evaluate, and improve CHC workforce programs and partnerships. Membership is encouraged for any CHC employee who works to manage or develop any health professions education or training program or partnership at your community health center. We will work together to put practices into place to properly and effectively manage your training relationships, residencies, preceptorships, extern/internships, as well as to develop effective strategic workforce development plans. We will grow and expand our foci in response to how North Carolina continues to develop workforce pipelines to support community health center staffing in our state. Special Populations Health Workgroup

The Special Populations Health Workgroup addresses continuum of care issues, accessible hours of operation/locations, collaborative relationships, quality improvement/assurance, service level program expectations, and quality of care, health outcomes/disparities, and performance measures specific to Migrant Health Center, Health Care for the Homeless, and Public Housing Primary Care grantees. Participants are encouraged to share concerns and feedback at all meetings as well as to provide specific topics for meetings. The group shares promising practices, discusses challenges, exchanges resources, and partners on initiatives to facilitate the delivery of quality, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care services to patients of health centers receiving special populations funding. This workgroup is staffed by NCCHCA’s Community Development & Special Populations Coordinator with the assistance of the Director of Training & Technical Assistance.
