Job Description:

Overview:

Under direct supervision, provides assistance to the provider and clinical staff of Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine (TAPM) in order to provide direct, quality patient care to adult and/or pediatric patients.

Job Responsibilities:

Assists provider staff during examinations, treatments, and testing.
Refers to and follows provider staff orders in accordance with agency protocols, policies and procedures when performing patient care and clinical skills including but not limited to: venipuncture, immunization injections, ear irrigation, administration of medications, dental varnishings, catherizations, specimen collections, etc., and completes necessary documentation.
Retrieves information from patient charts for lab and diagnostic tests, and obtains required patient signature on appropriate consent forms, as requested by provider staff.
Performs patient intake and prepares patients for office visit per policy and procedure.
In collaboration with provider staff, supports entry and recording of visit charges per protocol and advises patients of follow up appointments as directed by provider staff.
When requested, ensures referral forms and other paperwork initiated by provider staff is complete and accurate.
Requisitions, organizes, and stocks inventory for examination rooms and nurse’s station, as needed.
Disposes of all disposables, contaminated, and used items into designated waste containers.
Cleans and stocks examination rooms and stations as needed.
Participates in ongoing quality improvement monitoring, educational updates, in-services, and other meetings pertaining to position.
Promotes team, system, and organizational goals; maintains patient confidentiality and provides customer service.
Abides by all company policies, procedures and protocols regarding safety/health rules and regulations.
Adapts to various situations and adjusts to shifting priorities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Floats to other clinic sites upon request to meet staffing and coverage needs.

Preparation and Training:

Job duties require a high school education with additional broad technical training in a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Program. Must either be a currently Certified or Registered Medical Assistant. Must have a working knowledge of data processing equipment, computers, telephones, and such typical office machines and equipment. Must maintain effective written and oral communication/English skills. Must maintain current CMA/RMA designation, CPR certification, and a NC driver’s license for occasional outside travel.

Experience:

With the above skills, education, and at least one year of previous clinical experience (preferably in ambulatory care), it would take approximately 3-12 months to become proficient with the policies, procedures, and protocol utilized by Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine.

Analytical Ability:

Repetitive routine, or semi-routine duties, involving the use of numerous established clerical, statistical, and/or other general procedures. Involves average detail and variation, and where the employee is responsible for recognition of previously described sets of circumstances and can refer to an appropriate licensed nurse or provider within limits of clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures. Tasks are: performed frequently in the daily care of patients in the office setting, performed according to an established sequence of steps, may be performed with a predictable outcome; and do NOT involve ongoing assessment, interpretation or decision making that cannot be logically separated from the tasks themselves.

Independent Judgement:

Under general supervision, whereby standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on regular duties, referring questionable cases to supervisor or others.

Responsibility of Equipment or Process:

Limited – makes minor adjustments to equipment; testing and measuring devices; however, equipment is not “sensitive” and damages are unlikely under normal use and care. Testing/measuring equipment includes: crash cart, oxygen tanks, glucometer, strept test kit, scales, thermometer, pulse oximeter, nebulizer, hemoglobin machine, dinamapp, tape measure, Accuchecks, Hemmocues, Snellen charts, IV starts, and other equipment and devices as assigned.

Material or Product:

Errors with the incorrect storage of certain medications could go undetected and could result in some or total loss of medication, which would prove costly to TAPM, as well as affect patient goodwill/care (if error is not caught). Misuse of biohazard materials could mean OSHA fines and/or penalties.

Safety of Others:

Safety of others depends entirely on the correct action of employee on job being rated. Errors, such as incorrectly administered medications, injections, and/or other treatments, should they occur, could result in serious or fatal repercussions for the patient.

Responsibility for Work of Others:

Responsible for own work only.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions can be stressful and fast-paced. Must be able to work and deal effectively with changing situations, varying workloads, interruptions, etc. Frequently exposed to communicable diseases, biohazardous substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions conducive to a clinical environment.

Mental Attention or Visual Demand:

Continuous mental and visual attention and manual dexterity when attending to patient care and medical record keeping; usually repetitive work or diversified operations requiring constant alertness or activity. Must have acute visual perception for patient care and record keeping requirements and be able to distinguish colors. Must be able to communicate via telephone and other automation vehicles. Normal or corrected vision is required in order to visualize computer screens, medical record forms, and equipment screens. Normal or corrected hearing is required for hearing blood pressures, monitor alarms, and building alarms, etc.

Physical Demand:

Position requires frequent standing/walking for extended periods of time. Must be able to touch/feel, and grip/grasp equipment/tools, and testing devices. Also requires stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, and twisting. Must lift/carry patients or equipment weighing approximately 25-40 pounds four or more times per hour, including but not limited to car seats and diaper bags, and occasionally push/pull occupied wheelchairs, strollers, etc. weighing approximately 15-60 pounds.

Hazards:

If precautionary measures are not adhered to, this position could come in direct contact with infectious/communicable diseases, biohazard waste materials, needle pricks, etc.

Safety:

Triad Adult & Pediatric require that all employee work in a safe manner with regards to themselves and their co-workers. Any unsafe acts or condition are to be reported immediately.
